After the success of the first edition organised last year to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the twinning agreement between Barcelona and Kobe (Japan), the World Data Viz Challenge 2019 Barcelona-Kobe is back. The challenge takes place at the same time in both cities aiming to encourage citizens to contribute to improving different aspects of the city by analysing and visualising data in formats that may go from infographics, graphics to interactive maps, among others.

The contest is organized by Open Data BCN, the Barcelona City Council’s open data service, which has more than 450 datasets classified into five major themes: city and services, territory, population, administration and economy and business. Although dataviz can address any aspect related to the city of Barcelona, this year we want to put emphasis on a worldwide issue: Cities and the Climate Emergency, aligned with the Climate Plan, which integrates the Barcelona’s City Council scope of work in relation to the climate change. However, participants are free to choose any other theme or issue to analyse.

From all the participants, a team formed by professionals specialized in data analysis will select 6 finalists from Barcelona. At the same time, 6 finalists from Kobe will be selected and will be given the opportunity to travel to Barcelona and present their dataviz along with the rest of the finalists in the framework of the Smart City Expo World Congress 2019, which will take place in Barcelona from 19th to 21st of November.

Dataviz project submission period is from 16th of September to 31st of October, 2019. You can find more information at the World Data Viz Challenge 2019 Barcelona Kobe website.
